Beauty Product Review: Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF20

Do you use foundation on your face?

I don’t use foundation very often.  I know that foundation provides the smoothest coverage and really evens out skin tone.  But I don’t usually like to wear it because I am also afraid that it will clog up my pores and I already have sensitive skin. When you think about why foundation makes your skin tone is even, it is because you are painting on a new layer on your skin right?

But I am not blessed with great skin and didn’t want to show my freckles and dark circles every day.  So I started to use Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer after reading about it in InStyle’s annual list of best beauty products.

Laura Mercier 2011 Portofino campaign

The tinted moisturizer is really easy to use – just wipe in and go.  I also really love products that do double duty.  I am fair skinned and always need a product with SPF so this particular formula gives me sun protection while also providing me with light coverage (good bye dark circles!)  I even used this as a pseudo foundation when I got married!  I got married in August and NYC summers require lots of sun protection and powder! I will warn though that the illuminating tinted moisturizer caused me to break out though I liked the slight sheen.  The oil-free version is great though a a bit pricey so I’ll definitely report if I find a good alternative!

Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer SPF20, Neiman Marcus, $43

Recommend

- Yes – this is easy to use and provides coverages.
Pros
- It goes on smoothly and provides some SPF protection as well.
Cons
- It is a little pricey and the other formulas can cause breakouts.  The tint may also not match your skin tone.
Price
- $43 (ouch!)

  1. I’ve heard good things about this one. Tinted moisturizers leave such a dewy, pretty look. Would love to try this.

  2. I love tinted moisturizers and use one all the time with mineral powder instead of foundation. It works great! I’ll have to give this brand a try.

  3. Thanks for the review, I appreciate reading about beauty products from other bloggers because then I know they are not biased with their opinions, sounds like an excellent foundation

  4. Swoon! How gorgeous is that campaign photo?! Tinted moisturizers are my favorite – you get great coverage without the heaviness of foundation; plus…the SPF is the perfect form of anti-aging protection. :)

  5. I don’t wear foundation either but I have to try everything for work and she does make one of the best ones out there. Great review :) xoxo

  6. This is still my favorite TM!

(Is that $20 USD for a taxi ride?! o.O We were able to forgo this in Samui as we mainly walked, used songthaews, and for airport transfers the hotel’s shuttle service. So I don’t know how much those guys were charging. Did you try taking tuk-tuks in Phuket?)

  7. Thanks for the review! I really need to step up my skincare routine over the next several months!

  8. I love this! It’s a little light in the coverage department for me in the fall/winter but in summer time I go through it in droves. Double duty, can’t beat it!

  9. Yikes, I steer clear of anything that could cause breakouts, especially at that price!

  10. I’ve heard so many great things about this and have been meaning to try it :)

  11. My favorite of the Mercier foundations is the one what comes in a jar. It is AMAZING. Just a pea sized amount covers your entire face..the only downside is that there is no SPF…and that it’s $60!!
