Natural Beauty DIY: Summer skin clearing avocado mask

July 11, 2013

Mmm avocado.  I could eat you ALL the time.

I love avocado in sushi, salads, and dips and know that eating this healthy fat can be good for me.  But I didn’t realize that avocado can also be great for my skin as well – it’s moisturizing and vitamin packed!  I combined my avocado with a few other natural ingredients that would be great for ladies like me who are (still!!!) suffering from the occasional blemish or two. The summer sun and extra sunscreen we use now can certainly aggravate the potential for acne now so I’m doing all I can to fight it!

DIY Avocado mask

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon honey (preferably raw)
  • 1/2 teaspoon teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 ripe avocado

Preparation and instructions

1. Mix all ingredients together.

2. Apply mixture to your face for 15-20 minutes.  Then wash off the mask thoroughly with warm water.  You will not use all of this mixture at once, but can keep it for a few days in the refrigerator.  You can also halve this recipe.

Note: You may use a tiny bit more coconut oil if you skin is used to it.  But a little goes a long way!

Benefit Rundown

  • Avocado oil acts as an emollient and can sooth inflammations
  • Honey can fight acne at its roots by helping to unclog pores and draw out sebum and other impurities
  • Coconut oil contains vitamin E, which can be used to treat scars, acne, and wrinkles because it speeds up cell regeneration.

I love avocado too! I might be tempted to eat this mask. haha. Have you found it’s working well?

Ok I’ve tried the mask twice now. It did seem to mildly improve my current blemishes which impressed me. But I don’t know how great of a job it did to prevent acne because I still got a blemish after using it. Though like I mentioned, I unfortunately always seem to get a little zit or two!
